Current Venues

Twickenham Stadium, rebranded the Allianz Stadium in 2025, has been home to the Army v Navy match continuously since 1920. From 1926 until 1997 all three Inter Service Championship matches were hosted by the Home of England Rugby but from 1998 the RAF matches were no longer played at Twickenham. The 2018 Army v Navy Match saw Twickenham host a record crowd of 81578.
The Army v RAF matches moved to Gloucester Rugby’s Kingsholm Stadium, and it’s famous Shed, in 2019, although it had hosted RAF matches from 1999 – 2001. Gloucester, known for its passionate rugby support, has long established links with the military and has fully embraced hosting the double header featuring both the men and the women’s Senior XVs. In 2025 a record crowd, for the fixture at Kingsholm, saw 6806 enjoy the vibrant Kingsholm experience.


The newest venue for the Inter Service Championship is Northampton Saint’s Cinch Stadium which hosted the 2025 Navy v RAF match in the 1st year of a 3 year contract. The Northampton club has extensive Service links through Army International Edgar Mobbs, whose memorial in within the stadium, and most recently Navy International Sam Matavesi. The 2025 match hostsed a crowd of 2328 which will hopefully be built upon during the remaining 2 years of the contract.
Historic Venues
Plymouth Albion RFC hosted the 2023 & 2024 Navy v RAF matches at Brickfields. Brickfields were former sports pitches run by the Royal Navy.


The 2022 Navy v RAF matches were played at Ealing Trailfinders RFC. It was the 7th London Venue to host an Inter Service Championship match.
The Twickenham Stoop, home of Harlequins FC, hosted the 2018 & 2019 Navy v RAF Matches. It was the 7th London Venue to host an Inter Service Championship match.


The 1925 Army v RAF Match was the only Inter Service rugby match to be hosted at Wembley Stadium. Wembley became the 4th London venue, after Queen’s Club (Kensington), Twickenham and Leyton (Army v RAF 1922). For 2 years (2005 & 2006) Richmond College was used by the Women for their Army v Navy Match before playing 12 matches (2007-2018) at the Army School of Music, Kneller Hall. The Twickenham Stoop become the 7th London venue, when the Navy v RAF match moved there for 2018 & 2019 before in 2022 Ealing Trailfinders became the 8th London venue to host an Inter Service match.
The Queen’s Club, Kensington, hosted the early Army v Navy matches from 1907 through to when the games stopped in 1914 due to the First World War. When rugby restarted in 1920 and the Inter Service Championship was formed the Army v Navy match was played at Twickenham Stadium but Queen’s Club hosted 4 Navy v RAF matches (1920-1923) and 2 Army v RAF Matches (1920-1921). The 1923 Navy v RAF match was a little surprising as the press had reported that their 1922 match was to be the last rugby match played at Queen’s Club.
